The Tavignano Canyon
History and myth - The Tavignano Canyon
Corsica’s second largest river rises near Lake Nino, where, according to legend, the Corsican druids met. It flows through the valley that bears its name, the Tavignano. The Tavignano canyon passes through Corte before emptying into the Tyrrhenian Sea at Aléria, the ancient Roman capital of Corsica. We’re going to discover a narrow gorge worthy of the most beautiful canyons you’ve seen in adventure films. The Tavignano is also the river where you’ll find the Saut du Curé canyon, which can only be done in one day. The Tavignano canyon is the lower part of the latter and can be done in half a day. You won’t learn the story of the curé, but you will enjoy this last narrow gorge where the jumps are terrifying for the faint-hearted and generous for the brave. You can also try your hand at psicobloc (deep water soloing). It’s simply a question of climbing over overhanging walls, using the water to catch you if you fall. Sometimes pitting yourself against others can be fun, and there’s no competition involved, just a moment to share an unforgettable day on holiday in Corsica.
Description of the Tavignano Canyon
The Tavignano canyon is for people who want to enjoy the river. In a magnificent gorge, we descend a river with huge pools. Some will float and do a few jumps, while others will swim in endless pools and do a multitude of jumps.
The height of the jumps is a subject that comes up frequently. In the Tavignano canyon, the question no longer arises: your fear will be your limit.
The second frequent question. How many jumps? Between a few dozen and a million, as my little nephew would say.
A treat for children, jumpers and contemplative types alike.
Level - All levels - Swimmer - jumper
The Tavignano is a canyon for everyone.
As with all our canyons, we ask that you know how to swim and be in good health.
The pools are several hundred metres long, so you need to be able to swim on your back and float 😊.
As for the jumps, there’s no obligation, we’ll be looking for obstacles on the banks.
Period - the aquatic nature of canyoning
After the snow has melted, we can take full advantage of the Tavignano canyon, before which it is reserved for experienced kayakers, like the Vecchio canyon.
We start descending it in mid-June. In summer, the canyon becomes a place where you can relax, float, jump and float again.
It’s a joy that makes you realise you’re on holiday. The real canyon in summer.
