Via cordata Restonica Taffoni
Restonica The Sphynx
at Corte in the Restonica valley
Via cordata Restonica
Altipiani has just finished setting up the via corda in the Restonica valley. A via corda or via cordata is a vertical hike, a first approach to discovering the world of Corsican rock and taffoni, in complete safety and with no pre-requisites. For this vertical hike, we’ve followed the natural lines of the rock, its cracks, its natural ledges and above all the holes carved out by time, the taffoni, which form natural steps. You’ll be climbing the most beautiful staircase in the world. The via corda Restonica Taffoni and Restonica Le Sphynx is a shared adventure for children aged 7 and over.
Playing with the rock
By equipping this superb rock to create the via corda, Altipiani wanted to make rock climbing accessible to everyone.
The via corda Restonica Taffoni is the ideal way to discover this activity.
Lasting 2 hours 30 minutes, it takes you sometimes inside, sometimes above the taffoni, the cavities carved out by time.
The via cordata Restonica Taffoni takes in all the natural passages carved out of the rock.
The name of Corte and its region, ‘Green Capital of Corsica’, will take on its full meaning in the midst of this vertical and mineral escapade.
via cordata, via corda what is it?
A Via corda, or Via cordata, should not be confused with a Via ferrata: a via ferrata is a course laid out with a cable, or lifeline, that remains fixed along the entire length of the course.
Unlike a via ferrata, a via cordata has discreet equipment that is not permanently fixed.
The rock is fitted with anchors that allow the rope to be fixed in place as we pass. It can also be fitted with a few steps or handholds embedded in the rock face, so that you can easily negotiate passages that seem a little more complicated.

the Via cordata Restonica Le Sphynx
The via corda: Le Sphynx starts from Restonica Taffoni. We move away from it to gain height on an incredible path, a natural sculpture of steps that climb diagonally up this verticality. After a number of changes of direction, we come out on a small plateau to climb back up under the wings of the Sphynx.
We approach the Sphynx without waking it, walk around it and over its back to take a ledge that leads down towards the end of our adventure.
